Public safety is always an issue and it just takes one bad event however trivial and a grumpy neighbour and that's it for your practice sessions. We live in one crazy, gun-mad place, no discipline and unlicenced (therefore untrained) idiots. So one day a while back there was this private hospital... too many feral pigeons crapping everywhere. It is a hospital hey? Public health and all. The Security firm says we have some friends...
Ok They really, really were the good guys...
trouble is they arrived at dawn in full camo with 'high tech 'rifles'--yeah they were rifled, .177 gas powered competition airguns. Those things are super-accurate and are super quiet, perfect for pest control, as the pigeons discovered. 18 shots and 18 down and then the cops arrive. The men were arrested, I mean handcuffed and charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER, and for discharging a firearm in city limits. Does anyone remember "you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant" Here's your cue Killy! Comment was that it was 'dangerous to the birds in the area!' No sh*t especially the ones sitting up against concrete walls under the eves! I kid you not. Guess we should be nicer them feral pigeons. Not as if the cops have anything else to do...what with all those mad bank robbers who shoot back. Imagine that?
So yes, I also shoot with caution and invite my neighbours over to shoot too if they want to. Targets are up against a high wall, arrow eater that is! They understand what I am about and we have no problem although I should look out for the 'murder rap'.
