Feather dying?
« on: June 16, 2008, 09:35:00 PM »
Just received my rw feathers from Stringstretcher today, from the St. Judes auction, and had a nice surprise in the package. He sent me some extra feathers that were dyed, some yellow and some brown, natural barred. I am interested in dying some for myself because they look really neat!
My question is: Does dying feathers take away from the natural oils in the feathers, or do the feathers hold up just as well in wet weather when dyed?

You have to wash the feathers to get the dye to take well, so you are washing out the natural oils.
