wooden arrows made simple
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:49:00 PM »
Was thinking about switching from aluminum to woodies and was curious what recommendations you guys would make regarding switching over to wood shafts, and arrow making equipment.

Keeping in mind I would want to stay as affordable and simple as possible. What do I need that is esssential and what manufacturers are good?

I've got a Bitzenburger and shoot a Striker longbow 58#@28, but draw about 27" so somewhere around 55. Are the spine weights fairly accurate or do you just have to go with the trial and error route?

Where should I begin?

as far as tools you really only need a tapering tool...i use the cheapo pencil sharpener looking one and it does the trick...its not perfect but for working arrows its fine.

i also purchased a dipping tuber for a few $$ to help in sealing the arrows...much easier for me then the spray can stuff.

then theres always cresting and what not if you want to get that in depth...but its not needed.

you make it as expensive as you want really.
