66" bow???

How well does a 66" bow preform? Is it handy in a tree of is it a very clumsy bow to hunt with. thanks for you help.

my friend richard has a 7 ft longbow,
its pretty fast at 41 pounds,
but he only uses it for rabbit hunting

the 7 footer of his didnt mind shooting in tight brush,
I think 66" is fine.

I shot a 66 inch bow for years, never noticed any problems out of a treestand at all. This bow at 66 in outperforms a similiar make 64 inch..smoother draw and faster.. I wish I had ordered my new longbow at 66 instead of 64..

I have and use a 66" Big River long bow.  It is fine, in or out of a tree.  Sure, it is not quite as handy as a 50" bow, but it shoots a fast arrow and I don't find it to be a problem at all.  Feels like a part of my when I carry it and when I shoot it.

Practice with it where you want to shoot it so you get a feel for it.

Jon does a good job on his big river bows. I have meet with him, with some friends of mine at a trad shoot. My friend shot one of his bows at the shoot and then he bought it 20min later but he is also good friends with jon. just thought i would share that.

Thanks Drake.  To tell the truth, I think John is a real hidden secret of a bowyer.  I feel like I should be buying a bow to put in the closet for "later".  I don't know how old he is, maybe 100,  I do know he is fun to be around and a great all around guy.   Don't know where he comes up with some of his lines, but I giggle even thinking about them.  Do you know Lamont as well (Footed Shaft).  Great guys

I like my Big River longbow.  John makes a 60" version too, and it is nice, but there is something about that 66" job that just shines for me.  Hell , we go out and shoot stumps on my little place in the UP (MI) and after playing around, we get serious  and start really calling the shots, like, laying on our backs and shooting over stumps and all kinds of stupid stuff and that darned bow just keeps on hitting.   I think you can do a lot worse than a Big River bow.  66" is not too big, you just need to practice with it and it becomes you.  You will then have the "feel" of how much space you need.

Whether a 66-inch bow will be a problem when used in a tree depends a lot on your size.  If you're 5'10" or more, won't be an issue, but if you're 5'6", maneuverability will be more of a problem.

I shoot a 68" Black Widow long bow...been using it for years...actually after all those years I'm quite fond of tag soup at the end of the season but I don't think it has anything to do with the length of my bow.  You'll do fine shooting a 66" bow and will enjoy the smooth draw without stacking nor fingerpinch.  Long and lean...

I am shooting a 70" bow with no problems.I have been useing a 68" bow the last couple of years.The only draw back I ever find with a longer bow is if you hunt blinds much.Short bows are best in cramped quarters but the rest of the time longer is best.My longer bows are the best performing bows I own and I like shooting them more than the others.
