Advice on Limb bolt "bushing" removal
« on: July 01, 2008, 01:59:00 AM »
I have a set of Samick Spirit recurve limbs that I am attempting to build a riser for and want to also make some antler burr bolts to mount the limbs. However, these limbs have brass "bushings" attached to them for flat head bolts.
I am sure I could somehow attach the antler burrs to some flathead bolts, but I don't want too and don't think that would look as good. So I want to remove these bushings from the limbs.
Has anyone ever done this successfully or have any suggestions on the best way to go about it without causing damage to the limbs? I have a few ideas, but want to see what the "experts" on here have to offer.

Just so everyone can see what I am talking about, here are some pictures of the "bushings".

One thing to note is the "bushing" only goes about halfway through the hole of the limb, as can be seen in this last picture.

You should be able to press them out just like changing an ILF or Das fitting.Check the DAS sight.I think David has detailed instructions on there somewhere.
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

Bob Lee bows have a similar bushing arrangement. I just used a wooden dowel slightly smaller than the hole in the limb but bigger than the bushing. I opened my bench vice wide enough so the beveled end of the bushing would fit between the jaws + some for a piece of leather to protect the limb. Then using the dowel and a mallet or a hammer, I drove the bushing out by giving it a few taps. They were just press fitted in the limb - no epoxy/glue.

I've done this on several Lees and some are more press fitted than others.

Good luck. Al (Als Decals)

Wow, I am sure glad that I asked about this on here, cause I was thinking that the bushings were glued in placed and I was going to have to do some cutting and drilling to get them out.
Does anyone else have any different experiences?
