Nebraska Bowhunt
« on: July 05, 2008, 02:05:00 PM »
I'm headed to Macy, this September to hunt the Omaha Nation lands for whitetails.  There is limited maps available, so I'm just looking for any info that may help me.  I've never been there but heard planty good stories about the area.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I am located about 50 miles south of Macy. My son is about 25 miles south of Macy. He used to do some upland bird hunting on either the Macy or Winnebago res. I have been through there countless times but am afraid I can't tell you much.
This is pretty rugged country and I believe the Omaha res. runs from US-77 all the way to the Missouri River and even a short distance into Iowa in places.I would guess that there are alot of minimum maintenance roads also. I have no doubt that there are some very good whitetails in this area.
As for maps, the Nebraska Game and Parks website will provide you with topo maps if that is what you are looking for. Check their site. I think you can get maps of about anywhere in the state.
You might also try Nebraska Traditional Archers. I believe there is a link to their site from here. One of the members may be familiar with the area.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Good luck on your Nebraska hunt.

I live about 40 miles south of there in Blair, Ne. I have never hunted the reservation, but I have seen some of the deer that have come off of it, and they were impressive. White Oak is correct about the area being rugged, probably as rugged as land can get as far as whitetail hunting in Nebraska.

If you will be around Blair, give me a holler.

keep the tips coming.  The map of the reservation needs improvement to say the least.  There is a river bottom and an archery only area.  What crops do they plant in the area?

Grabwad, I'm not familiar with the Northeastern area of NE , but if you have the time available and plan on heading west of that area, let me know and I will try to make worthwhile arrangements for you. Nebraska has some dynamite hunting areas encompassing the entire state.

Grabwad, did you try TerraServer or GoogleEarth?  You can get some pretty good views from the air on those websites.

Good country near Macy.  You should do well.

I have a membership to trails.com and I can get the maps I need.  I just don't know what kind of crops/ boundry lines/ patterns etc.

I plan to do real good!  Thanks for all help.

I just bought binoculars so I should be ready to see them in the evenings.

Is there good buck movement for the opener sept. 15th?
