trail camera problem
« on: July 22, 2008, 10:15:00 PM »
Set a new moultrie m40 out last Wednesday. This morning we pulled the card and had 440 exposures. When we reviewed, we had about 40 good pictures. The balance was either a bright light. or dark. We set the camera facing the East. This was down the trail. We put out 50 lbs of corn when we set the camera up. The corn is all gone. Does anyone have any ideas on what might have happened. Thanks Rod

First, if you are having whiteouts, I would go to moultries website and check for a firmware update for your camera. I know you said it was a new camera but it could have been in the store or warehouse for awhile. Moultrie is pretty good about keeping things updated to deal with those issues. I have one of their I40 cameras and did the update and I never get whiteouts anymore. Second, you have to be careful when facing a camera either east or west as the sun can make for a crappy photo. It can be done depending on ground/tree cover, topo, etc... Moultrie makes a pretty good camera for the money, I've had several different types of trailcam over the last 12 years and even have some that I made myself. The moultrie I have has amazing battery life and takes great pics.

leaves, branches in the sight picture causing it to go off? Also I find it best to face em North or South. If the cam is too close, you can get whiteout as well. A simple leaf in front of the cam can reflect enough light to cause whiteout too.
