Trad stores in Western Oregon
« on: July 24, 2008, 08:59:00 AM »
Taking a trip to the Oregon coast, and while the wife is doing 'woman' things (no offense, Killdeer)  :D  , I would like to check out some trad bow shops. I know about Rose City in Myrtle Point, but are there any others?

Yes,
Check out Brock's store "Bull Mountain Archery" if you get near Vancouver WA. It's on Hwy 99 very close to the 78'th st. exit in Hazel Dell [Vancouver WA]. He is open Wed.-thru Friday evevnings and Saturday,

Don't forget to stop at Ted Fry's shop [Raptor Archery] in Hood River Ore. It's up on the hill near hospitol. Check his Sponsor's post for a address,

Both great shops, hope that helps.

My son and I did a bowbuilding class at Raptor Archery last month-what a great class and trad shop that is!

As a former resident of the Oregon coast, I can tell you there are not any Trad shops on the North coast.  Raptor is about as Trad as they come and is 3 hours from the coast, but is easily accessable from I-84. On the other hand, if you like good beer, the coast is flush with great breweries, namely the Pelican Pub in Pacific City and Rogue in Newport.  The Oregon coast is beautiful, I miss it terribly, have a good time!

If you are near Newport hit Gino's (it's a mom and pop fish market/small restaurant)on the bayfront for the best fish and chips on the coast! The Rogue Brewery is just down the street. I don't know of any trad. shops on the coast though.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Sounds like Raptor is right on our way, so it is a 'have to'. And of course we need to sample a few of the local brews.

Lots of good beer here in Hood River as well , 4 micro brews in a town of 5000. Not to mention you can try windsurfing and kite sailing while you are here. Since you are going to be on the coast make sure to stop and see John Strunk , no finer man around and a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks for the tip, Vance. I was torn between a kick in the shin and a punch in the nose.  :bigsmyl:

Wes Wallace and Norm Johnson are two of Oregon's great bowyers who will most likely be gracious hosts for a visit to their shops.
