Which MFX shaft?
« on: February 22, 2007, 10:14:00 PM »
Wanting to try Beeman's MFX classic shaft, what would you all recomend. Shooting Morrison Cheyenne TD, 58@29, draw 27.5" (bow scale reads 54#), would like a 29-30 inch shaft with 300 total point weight (100 insert plus 200 grain WW). Thinking the 400's. Thanks

400's would be a good choice, but with that much weight up front 340's might work also.I shoot Beman MFX Classic 400's out of a 61#@27 Green Mt. and a 58#@27 Fox longbow. The MFX is 29.5" BOP,100 gr. insert,125 gr.point,wraps,3-5" feathers, total weight 560 grs.Your bow being cut past center and heavy front end may work better with 340's.I find that a center cut bow will require a stiffer spine arrow but also can handle a bigger variety of spine weight. My bows there are not center cut so I have to play the paradox and get the weight I wanted.

400 would be about right, just bareshaft to fine tune.  I can shoot the 400's on my 56# at 27in BW and with 225grs up front, my arrows were 30in.  Good luck, Mark

I'm shooting 400's out of a Morrison Shawnee Dakota 58#@29".  200 gr point and standard insert.  Arrows are 30" long and weigh about 517 gr.  I was shooting 340's out of a 61# at 29" Black Widow recurve.  I had 100 gr insert and 125 gr head. This arrow was also 30" long.  Just as long as you bareshaft tune you will get it right.  You might also try the test kit from 3 rivers if you are worried about getting the wrong spine.

Thanks guys, I picked up single axis 340 and it needed to be full length to fly well bare shaft if I shortened it at all it would fly stiff. Going to try the 400's and maybe can get the length I want, should be able to shorten it couple of inches, could always reduce point weight to stiffen it and add weight tubes to get the total weight up to 600 grains. Will definetly bareshaft start full length and shorten slowly until she flies slightly weak. Wish me luck, those shafts are mucho $.

Mark, thanks for the post sounds like going to 300 point with the 400 should work at around 29".
