Harvesting snake skins

Do any of you go out hunting snakes with the primary purpose of getting skins for bow backing?

Killed rattlesnakes, and bull snakes for their skins, what do you want to know?

Check your game laws before doing so. Illegal in many states.

I have not but I do come across enough mocassins each year that collecting some would not be a problem.  I'd prefer to find some road killed ones though.  As far as legality, if I'm not mistaken, in LA you need a fishing license to collect reptiles and amphibians (except for gators).

You aint lieing about the mocassins down here.  As a kid, it was nothing to see 20-40 snakes on a slow ride through some canals.  I could collect enough skins for many, many bows just in Marepaus swamp.
Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Well, if we had many around here that would make good bow backings, I would be tempted to try getting a few. I like to save money and I like to "do it myself".
I don't buy bow staves. I bought a cheap beaver hide, high quality fur but very damaged, and have made several string silencers and still have alot left. Keep trying to take a turkey for obivious reasons. Save sinew from deer legs and back. Use walnuts for stain. Trying to find rivercane for arrow shafts...
