Just installed Hush puppy
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:07:00 AM »
and Bow hush to my recurve.  Instructions were easy to follow and didn't have any problems at all.  It did say to leave it strung for a day before shooting so my bow is in standby mode.  can't wait to try it out and see what difference these items make.

Anyone use these and have any comments?

Didn't see the search feature.  Looks like people are happy with the product.

After it got light this morning I tried the new silencers.  It isn't silent, more like thmmpt but way better than cat whiskers.  I tried regular yarn earlier in the week and it worked but not as quite as the bow hush and hush puppies.

Negatives:
When I shot I could see tiny strands of hair go poof and drift in front of me.  Have to wait and see if the loose stuff goes away or not.  It was kind of disstracting to me.

Yep, you'll see some fibers for the first few arrows. That'll stop soon enough.

They will do that for 50-100 shots or so. It will stop around that many shots. I trim mine to shape after all the loose stuff flies out.

Yep...LISTEN to the directions.  You must let the bow sit over night so the Hush Puppies will 'set'.

Your 1st dozen shots  or so will shed off all the short fibers.

Like stated earlier,....its all normal.

Love the bowhush on my recurve with my woolie whispers. Not totally silent, but as close as it will ever get.

I've made my own before but they sure don't work like the Hush works! I was going to trim mine too but I kinda like them like they are!

OK...I'm going to clarify.....

We use 'top' clip...that's the longest we can get, and that is 5 to 7 inch wool fibers.  Wool is not a continuous fiber.

Once you cut off the rubber, you now have cut thousands of fibers(individual strands)...and some are not connected underneath the string, but they were connected in the rubber glue you just cut off......

So, there are a bunch of individual fibers just 'floating' in the twist of each end of yarn.  When you shoot the bow, those loose ends start to fly out, some are longer than others an they hang on a bit longer.

After a dozen or so shots, the large majority of those floaters should be gone.

If you think those Hush Puppies shed, you should see our wool cut pile carpets shed.  Makes great dubbing for fly tying.

Went out to shoot some more this afternoon and they are working out just fine.  I noticed way less fibers floating in the air and am happy with the noise dampening.  No complaints at all and would recommend the product to anyone with a hunting recurve.  Thhmpt sounds much cooler than twang.

I have been using Terry's Hush puppies for quite a while and found some useful tips.
1---put a little strip of wax down the center of the puppy before you put it in the string.
2---never pull out the long strands...trim them

I move mine up and down the string until I get the best results for each different bow. As for my opinion I think Terry's girls are the best.  Chort
