using a footing to increase spine & FOC?
« on: August 05, 2008, 08:05:00 AM »
i'm looking at using some g/tip big game 100's out of a 70# recurve. but i've been told by a fellow ganger with experience with a similar setup that they will be to weak. (i want to put 350gr up front + wt tube). now the idea of putting a long footing of 2219 on the front dawned on me. if i do away with the wt tube and use a footing, mainly to decrease the amount of the shaft that is flexible, thus possibly making them stiffer while adding more FOC. the FOC should be huge! does anyone think that this might work? if i wasn't trying to cook up some buffulo arrows i wouldn't bother. what is the gr/" of 2219's?

Don't know if what you are trying to do will work but I'm interested to find out. xx75 2219's are 13.8gr per inch xx78 2219 are 13.9gr per inch.

Clint, I've been doing exactly as you suggested for a few years now.  It works quite nicely.  I use the Easton Axis 300 arrow though.  Same weight bow. Also substantially increases tip of arrow shear strength.  I use a 3 inch section of 2117 and is about an additional 35 grains.  Use JB weld as adhesive
