What kind of speed do you get out of your old Damon Howatts

I chronied my Damon Howatt Hi-Speed last night at the archery shop right before our dart league and it shot 185 fps. w/466 gr. arrow at 28 in., this is 8.4 gr#, seems to be pretty good for a 30 plus year old bow w/B-50 string. Its just as easy and smooth shooting as my n60-62 in. recurves.
Are you guys having similar experiences with your old Damon/Howatts and Martins. This is not meant to be a review of this bow, just wanting to see how everyone elses bows this old shoot.

Thirty-plus years isn't old, you young upstart!
I haven't chronographed any of my bows, Bears, Howatts or even my Morrison ACS . I just watch the arrows fly.

Killdeer, The bows thirty something yrs. old, Im going on 46 in June, kinda past the young upstart stage.LOL. I like to see the arrow fly also but also like to compare performance among different bows, above all else I like a smooth bow that hits where I point it, speed is just a added bonus.

Just yankin' yer chain, youngster.
Have you put your bow on a scale to see what the weight is at your draw? Howatts tend to run a little heavy.

I was dishearted with my Bear Super Grizzly 45# 428gr arrow 9.5gr # 156fps but it wasn't the speed that upset me it was that I only had 23# of kenetic energy. Your setup would be more like 35# KE

Killdeer, Havent scaled it but have 2 57# bows that scale right at weight and it feels lighter then them, next time I go to archery shop will scale it and see. 8up, with a good 2 blade broadhead your setup will still shoot clear through a whitetail.

I have an older Hunter, and with a 400 grain arrow , 45 # @ 28 ", it chrono'd at 181 fps. I love that bow.

8up, what is your draw length? An inch of draw can cost you 10 fps or more. Many of the older Bears are not scorchers for sure, but I love the shooting qualities!

I have not chronoed my Damon Howatt Super Diablo but it shoots a 600gr 2020 almost as fast as my Robertson Vision Falcon. The DH is 60lbs @ 28" but I draw to 29" and the Robertson is 68 @ 29". I have chronoed the Robertson and it is consistently in the mid 190's.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.
