tell me about Dale Dye/Trails End Recurves
« on: August 07, 2008, 12:29:00 PM »
My wallet is probably going to regret this, but I have the new bow bug and the Dye's have always appealed to me from a looks standpoint. I know very little else about them though because I've never seen a lefty I could shoot. I searched for a website but came up empty.

I know the location of a secret hoard of Dye bows tucked away in a coastal town in Massachusetts...aint that right Blue Monday?  :saywhat:

The grip he makes is very intersesting. Like a Fedora, you either do or don't like them. Beautiful workmanship, as you already know.

You only live once, might as well make it a good one. His bows are beautifull period. Would like to get one some day, just got other pots on the stove right now.

Be sure to post pics when you get one.

Brent,

Dale's bow are excellently crafted and beautiful.  All the grips are custom made to a tracing of your bow hand, so as long as you like the style it will fit very well.  It is a long wait and his prices are on par with other bowyers.  I have a 58" medicine point made from ebony with a bocote center strip and medicine wood limbs.  I got the fast flight option, which I think is a good choice.  The bow is quiet and forgiving.  It shoots right with my other bows which are know for their speed (Morrison & Borders).  I only have to make a very small adjustment in elevation.

Dale does not have a web site.  Here is his phone and address.

Or another option is go to the list of Dale Dye bows Steve Berger has posted in the classifieds on AT or LW.  I bought one from him.  It was built in 1999, but it looks like it was shipped directly from Dale to me.  Steve takes care of his bows!

Sheriff Dye is one of the finest gentlemen bowyers in archery and is one of the few who gives each bow his own attention start to finish.

Below is a couple pics of the Dye I bought from Steve Berger:

Suffice it to say the pics don't do the bow justice.  And they also don't tell you how smooth, how quiet and how quick the bow shoots and it is absolutely dead in the hand to boot.

The only bow that I've owned that was faster was a Palmer Double Carbon T/D recurve.  But, it wasn't by much, it had a FF string and it didn't match the Dye in any of the other qualities of a great shooting bow.  The only one that came close was a Border Black Douglas Swift T/D with HexIV limbs.
