I understand that a newer small unit is available now, anybody got one of these?

I've strapped them to my leg before and they get way too hot for that. Get the holter and hang it from your belt like SOS said there. More comfortable. dino

How long does the butane last? Do you need to stock pile the stuff or does one go a long way?

A must for the early season hunting - I always take mine in with me.
S'n'S - the butane cartige lasts around 10-12hrs, the pads roughly 3-4hrs. You can get the butane hair curler units cheaper, they're the same thing. I usually pick up a few replacement packs before the season kicks in and they vanish off the shelves.

They don't work in the vertical position--you've got to lat them flat.
