Hush Puppy or Cat Whiskers.
« on: August 09, 2008, 08:16:00 PM »
I have a Silvertip recurve with a fastflight string and was wondering if a set of Hush Puppy's would do a better job than the whiskers on it now. I would like to try the bow hush, but Dave does not like anything on the string at the  limb grooves. Also how long does it take to get the Hush puppy's from when you mail in your order. Thanks BOB

Hush Puppy does not go in the sreing grooves.  It is just like any other string silencer regarding placement (with the exception that it is the best thing I have used to date).  Bow Hush is the padding that goes on the string at the loops.

Delivery all depends on what Terry/his girls are up to.  I have gotten mine in less than a week (New York State).  Others have occasionally seen longer.

Hands down, a great product.  And it looks pretty cool too!

if ya want it for looks, go with hush puppies, but if ya want it to be quiet as a mouse, use the whiskers!!!! and they are waterproof as an added benefit. Some calf hair works great to pad the 'curves.

Check the placement of the whiskers-putting them on the quarters works really well-half an inch can make a difference.
Regular FF string can be obnoxiously loud. D97 with padded loops is far more quiet.
You should be able to make that bow very, very quiet.
Arrow weight makes a difference too.

I've sure got a different opinion about catwhisker vs. hushpuppies. I've tried everything out there at one time or the other and feel that Hushpuppies are quieter than the rubber.

Never had a problem with rain and Hushpuppies either. They do much more than look cool!!

Add the Bowhush and you have the ultimate silencing combo... much better than anything I've ever used to quiet the string slap at the limb tips.

I won't hunt with out them on my bows.

Bob... the Bowhush won't hurt the bow a bit. Bow W. nailed that.

Just put Bowhush and puppies on my bingham-pattern homebuilt recurve.  It's kind of a loud shocky bow without some help.  I use a Selway quiver for extra mass, but the addition of the bowhush and puppies made it death silent.  Just the sound of arrows hitting target.

Regarding placement of the huspuppies, I put them at the 1/3 point of the string.  There's a great thread on here about it from years ago, but the physics work out at 1/3 and 1/4 points on the string and as has been said, 1/2" can make a difference.

Easy, quiet and don't pick up as many burrs and such.

Loved the wool-great product- except burrs were a big problem for me.  I went back to rubber. . . two sets.

Thanks for the input. I have a 12 strand padded loop string coming this weekend and have been using 555grain and 625 grain arrows out of my 54# recurve. I think I will be trying the bow hush products. Thanks Again    BOB
