Finished Bow Number Two
« on: August 10, 2008, 07:47:00 PM »
Last weekend I finished my second longbow.  It is 66 inches and 51 pounds at 28.  The riser is Bocote with and 1/4 inch Osage stripe flanked by 1/16 inch black phenolic.  The limbs are black walnut throughout, with a .002 taper, under clear glass.  The riser is cut 1/8 from center.

I have been working a lot so today is the first day I have been able to spend any time with it.  I expected that it would like 400 carbons for my 30" draw but it seems to like 500s.  Bareshafting a 3555 was surprising to me.  Now I have to buy some more shafts, darn.

I tried a new finish this time.  A waterborne polycarbonate urethane from Target Coatings over their Universal Sealer.  I think I like it.  It is supposed to be tough for stuff like table tops and chemical resistant.  It went on very nicely with my Paasche airbrush and did not need any rubbing on the last coat.  It was a lot easier than the thinned epoxy I used on my first bow.
