I'm thinking about putting my matrix by a waterhole during this upcoming Elk Rutt in NM. Couple of questions, do elk spook on this blind? Whats best time of day to sit on a hole? how much brushing in do you do? My property is small i thought about retiring to the double bull and having lunch and a nap.

I have not hunted out of one myself, however a good friend of mine. Has taken many elk from a blind. I helped him set up a couple of times and videoed for him once. The bulls did not spook but the cows did not like it. We did not brush it in much at all though that may have helped?

I used one once and had a real nice 7x7 come in. He was suspicious, and kept looking at the blind but ended up giving a 20 yard broadside shot. As soon as I moved to draw he spooked out of there. That blind didn't have the black interior. Needless to say, I no longer own that blind.
I would think that is a far more productive way to spend midday than sitting in camp. We always had the best waterhole activity late afternoons. But I would definitely brush it in as good as you can!
Good luck in NM Joey - it won't be long now! I'll be there myself in two weeks. Good thing too, because this peeing down my leg is starting to irritate my wife!

Thanks Joe.....i hope to copy your smile on your last bull! great pic...i thinking at least it could be my little recess area to eat and nap but it will be hard for me to sit in the evenings with bugling going on.....I will take time to brush it in definitely

Joey, Everything I've seen in video's seems to be in the afternoon after they get up from their day beds. They'll come in and drink before they really get going for the evening activities.
If you can set up the blind a couple days before you actually sit in it,you'll probably be better off.
You probably know all this anyway......good luck bud!!

I got one with the pack for it and I am going to try it here in Washington this year but as you said probably just for like a rest area.

Joey, that would be cheating- the only proper way to take a nap while elk hunting is lying in the grass, half in the sun and half out, so when you get too hot you can roll into the shade, and vice versa.
No chiggers up there.
