Great hunting day with a question
« on: August 21, 2008, 10:24:00 PM »
I was able to hunt a 10-acre parcel owned by friends of ours a few days back.  Those of you who hunt in California understand what that does to your chances.

Anyway, though I didn't get a deer, I did get to sit about 50 yards from a 3x2 muley for about an hour and a half, while he chewed his cud and napped, surrounded by oak leaves that would put corn flakes to shame.  Then, a nice herd of two does, one spike buck and two forks.  A doe ratted me out, and the show was over.  But an exciting morning.

Here's my question:  Do any of you have tips for getting up close to a muley?  They are pretty random in their walking movements, but also curious creatures.  Do any of you have tips for getting them in those last few yards?

Yea...get a gun....

Seriously...they always seem to bust me all the time to get that last 5-10 yards.

Could you set a stand along one of the travel routes? It's tough when it is so noisey. Good luck out there.
" Just concentrate and don't freak out next time" my son Tyler(age 7) giving advise after watching me miss a big mulie.
