I just made my first flemish string. Watched some videos on youtube and went for it. It looks good but I'm still nervous about putting it on my bow. Is there a safe way to test it?

I made a stretcher for mine.. I pull it tighter than a ****** ****. Well you get the idea. I also use the stretcher to install the serving.

make sure you have plenty of twists in the string. You will keep the stringer on it and watch each end as you relax the bow to brace height. If the string unravels you still have it in the stringer. I remember that feeling though!!!

I made the top string a little too big. Can I still use it?

You mean the loop? Try it.. Is it a curve or an LB?

Yes, I had a brain dump. I meant loop. It is a recurve.

Also wondering if it is okay to stretch it on my old non fast flight bow as long as I don't shoot it?

I don't see why not, as long as you are just using it for a jig, and not to shoot.
You could untwist the string on one end, and adjust the big loop to fit.
