Best place to live and hunt?

I posted this last night but I think there was some misunderstanding about it not being hunting related (my mistake).
 I find myself in the enviable position of being able to hit the road and live wherever I want, as long as it has a pretty decent size hospital within commuting distance.  I was wondering if anyone was willing to share any locations that they feel provide the best hunting/living conditions. Elk are a must, along with mulies/ whitetails, and pronghorns. From Jarheads post (which got me thinking on this), it sounds like western SD is pretty special.

It just depends what you enjoy more.  I lived in Colorado for 7 years and loved it, but at this point in my life if I could move anywhere it would probably be Texas, because I would enjoy the hogs and javelinas more than mulies and elk.  That being said, I do miss the mountains alot.  :(

I live very close to the Famous edmonton Bow zone I think this is the best place I know of to hunt Whitetails Mule Deer and Huge Moose all without any Draws for tags Sweet!

if you could hunt anything with no draws and other crap similar to that, it would be alaska for me.

Guess I'm going to have a biased opinion on this one.

If all your interested in is Elk, Mulies, and Whitetails then by all means go to one of the cold states.

However, if you really want to live in an area loaded  with sporting adventure, listen up.

Year round hog hunting, generous whitetail seasons, bobcat, coyote, Turkey, gator & exotics.
Year round bowfishing, Fresh and saltwater fishing year round (no seasons).
Some of the best waterfowling on the atlantic flyway.
Spear fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving; scalloping, claming, oysters, and crabing.
Not to mention year round boating, and oh yeah surfing.
And did I mention we now have a large supply of pythons! and there's always the posibility of a skunk man or two.

All this and your never far from major cultural and technological centers. And I won't even mention Theme parks.

Live where it's warm, and visit the cold places to hunt those bigger critters!

I definitely have wanted to live in the mountains all of my life.  I cant see myself ever living at lower elevations again.  I will miss striper fishing but I guess I can always make trips.  

Flatlander, I keep hearing Texas being spoken of very highly. Definitely have to go check it out a little more closely.  Bawana, If things don't work out for you in your current line of work, you will always have a bright future with the Fla. chamber of commerce.  :D  
I hate the heat and humidity and you make me want to live there still!! Almost  :rolleyes:  

Gordon, I have always found that area to be a big draw, but leaving the states is a little farther back on my list.  Thanks for reminding me of how great that area is!

Bentpole, JD, Widoweater- New Mexico,Idaho, and Alaska are all just plain awesome, I agree. Gotta figure out where the best towns that are still close to game are.

These ideas are great, thanks again guys.  Please keep'em coming.  Hospitals in the area are unfortunately a deal-breaker.

Florida is great, fish both salt and fresh water, surfing, and a very liberal hunting season and bag limits......rabbits year round, wild pigs year round, month long archery season, gator bowhunting, muzzle load season and general gun season from nov thru end of january......I LIKE IT!!

I myself love hunting big whitetails, so I would love to live on 5000 acres in SW Kansas that had a little creek running thru it and plenty of food and just enough cover. Alaska would be awesome as well, but I onl;y want a few months of winter. Shawn

i could never even begin to think of leaving the Adirondacks but if i HAD to it would be Alaska for sure! Nate ya better not move untill we get a few more hunts planned!

Ken don't worry, no matter where I live you'll be coming out to hunt. Anyway, there's no way you can leave the adirondacks, I plan on coming back for a week or so each fall.

Alaska sure sounds real nice to me.  I may be able to swing a 6mos assignment up that way.

boise id less than an hour south you have pronghorns one half hour north mulies one hour north elk and moose plus lots of rivers and lakes trout and steelhead and o yes two major hospitals

You all can have eight months of winter, or year-round mosquitos 8^).   I like it where I am in Pennsylania.  Winters aren't all that bad....lots of game....and over two million acres of public land.  And that doesn't count private property that is hunter friendly.

Forty yrs ago I had an urge to  move West. I had that urge for a lot of yrs. Never made the move. I really cant think of another better place I would want to be than where Im at-Iowa. After about 8 times going to colo elk hunting with no success and a lot of work Im glad I didnt move. I have so much more fun chasing whities than elk and i can catch a Whitie whenever i want. Whitetails and Walleyes!!

I'm about to retire and move into a 5th. wheel.  Actually in the process as we speak.  I plan to go where the weather is good and hunt where the hunting is good.  I like the idea of not being nailed down...but rather being on wheels.  Hunted the Texas Sweat a couple years ago and loved it.  Made me realize how much country and huntin' buddies are out there that I need to avail myself of.

Gotta agree with you slow walker, that's probably the best thing any of us could do.  Congratulations to you for having put yourself in the position to make that dream happen.  I am truly envious

you may want to check out bend oregon also.elk,mulies and pronghorns all over the place with whitetails not to far away.great city of 80 thousand with rafting,fishing and skiing all very close by and a great hospital also.nice summers and cold winters.check it out

Ive heard real good things about Oregon, Elkherder.
I definitely have to check it out, It's very high on my list.  Between there and the western part of SD and WY, I think I'm starting to narrow the search a little.
