We only get one buck tag in my state. I usually see 20 bucks or so in the three weeks of hunting I do surrounding and during the rut in the north western part of the state where there aren't a lot of deer. Of those, about a half-dozen offer shots. I'm hunting mature deer, and usually only one or two, sometimes none, of those are what I'm after. The others are either too far away or don't offer a shot. There are years when I don't loose an arrow at a buck. Numbers are similar for does seen. They seem to offer a few more shots though. I'll sometimes take one for the freezer.
By way of comparison, I used to hunt in the south central (farm country) part of the state, an area now encompassed by chronic wasting disease. The whitetail population is much higher there, and it wasn't uncommon to see 30 deer a day, with a half-dozen or more of those being bucks, but few mature bucks.
