Beatle, had the EXACT same experience, it was a minor cut the first time, but the second time, it was kind of embarrassing with trying to make a stalk and leaving a blood trail at the same time. I made an extension which I meant to send a photo of to GN to see if they wanted to make something similar as an option, but never got around to it. I made mine out of a strip of Kydex which is a leather grained heat formable sheet plastic, that is very tough and they make holsters and knife sheaths out of it and such. You need a strip about an inch wide and roughly 11" long. Since its heat formable you can use a heat gun or even a candle to warm it enough to make the curve and corners. I put the seam at the corner where the support bar sticks through and attached it, with six tiny wire ties, just punch holes about 3/8" down from the top edge of the kydex and matching holes 3/8" up from the bottom edge of the hood and run the wire ties out the hole in the hood over the top edge of the kydex and down through that hole and into the female end of the wire tie. You could do the same thing with a strip of leather, but the kydex is thin, stiff and flexible and works out perfectly, this one I made has been on there about ten years and has been to the arctic circle, Africa and Australia many times with no problems.
