Any one use smoke as human scent killer?

When I was in Africa the wind was swirling alot and they would make about a 3 foot long line of zebra dung and light one end of it and it would smolder all day.  Several times on video it can be seen blowing from the blind towards the animal as I am shooting.  The 2 days we were in blinds and they didn't do that animals would come in and then the wind would switch and they were gone!  I don't know how or why it works but I saw it with my own eyes over there.  I haven't got around to trying it here but I will some day.  Joseph

I believe deer associate human scent with smoke quite often but not with threat due to the amount of wood burning up here. Deer don't always spook at human scent, otherwise they'd never stop running in many areas, it's the context of the scent that makes the reaction.

yes, i have done it for years. Cedar was the best for the area i hunt. just close your eyes when ya jump in the smoke.

My Father's driver in India was a fantastic tracker and hunter,He taught me  tracking and a few old tricks used by hunters in India before the invention of modern scent killers,the old man always rubbed cold ashes from a fire over his clothes before starting to track an animal,it definately worked in india,Did i mention the old man had tracked leopards and tigers when he was younger.

I used this method this year with great success.  Really easy and simplified the scent cover up issue for me.  Hardwoods are the key.  Oak is really nice but I generally use hickory as it is readily available.  I first worried about the smoke smell but after a few minutes it passes and I actually prefer it.  You can prep  your clothes in the evening(smoke and store in a big zip lock bag)  and smoke your under clothes up in the morning very quickly.  You will want to get a small butane torch ( harbor freight has them on sale for 5 bucks generally) to help really get the chips fired up.  Very effective and it gets the deer curious as to what it is in the woods.

i hunt alot now in pines the last couple of times i have burned little piles of pine needles underneath me as i stand since then my sighting have increased and not getting busted anymore

I read a lot of history stuff, I'm no expert on nothing, but I have read twice about eastern Indians the "Algonquins" standing in wood smoke before going hunting.
