My First Attempt @ Arrow Making
«

Well I just finished making my first arrows ever. I got a Bitzenburger for Christmas and have been accumulating fletching and shafts since. I finally got everything together to make my first arrows. I made 3 to start with. The reason I chose 3 is because they are the shafts that did not fit into +/- 15 grain groups when I weighted and spined my shafts. Since there were 3 shafts I fletched them all different to see what I would like best. I made one regular 3 fletch, one 4 fletch 90 degrees, and one 4 fletch 75 X 105 degrees. Below are some pics of how they came out.
Thanks,
Tim

Nice arrows. Now to choose,,,,,,hummmmm. Going to be hard. I do like the three fletch myself.
I like the looks of shield cut as a personal choice.

Looking good! You might want to leave a little more room between the nock and feathers. I would think it would be a little more comforable. Hap

Nice job, as Hap said keep some clearance from the nock groove. I use 1" clearance avoiding to touch the feathers with my fingers.
And yes, it's addictive and the results will be even more satisfying when you improve your skill.

I used bohning paint for the dip, rustoleum for the black and testeros model paint for the gold. I shot them tonight and they shot very well. Thanks again for all your nice comments.

Great Arrows!
When you do your "production" run definitely scoot up the feathers a bit as suggested earlier. I actually scored the side of the clamp on my Jojo fixture so I know where to park the feather.
On the painting side...I trick I use to cover up uneven seems between colors is to crest where the colors meet. And I get some uneven seems, especially when dipping color. So in your case...where the black meets the white and the black meets the natural wood consider some of that gold crest there. Maybe a few bands of different colors so the bands do not look so thick.
These are great arrows...far outdoing my first effort!
