filming hunts
« on: September 05, 2008, 02:39:00 PM »
I'm interested in filming some hunts.. Just my personal little jaunts into the woods..

I need advice on a camera that has some decent zoom capability to it for filming shots from tree stands and of deer coming in to rattling horns...

Can anyone help with brands, memory, etc..

Pat, I have a little Sony digital and it works just fine for me.  Nothing fancy and light to use with a Gorilla camera strap mount.  It took those pass thru pictures on my bear 2 years ago where the stone point went thru and the arrow fell to the ground when the bear turned (Quebec Bear Quest I).  With the digital you can make good dvd copies.  I guess my point is I'm not a techie, it is real easy to use, and fun to have memories of your personal hunts...Doc

I am with tippit. I filmed my dads moose last fall with a small digital sony. It did a good job. My video work was a little rough I got kind of excited as soon as the arrow hit lol. Everything after that point is a little rough. If you want really high wuality though (professional) you will have to spend a little more.

It depends on what you want to do with your video. If it is just for you then you can get away with a cheaper camera. They are pretty good. If you want production quality then I would recomend a camera that has 3 ccd chips in it. Most of the ones that have this are a little bigger. I picked up a used Sony trv95 for 1200.00 and it is a fairly small camera. They are no longer in production but they make a similar camera now for a lot less money.

I googled 'gorilla camera strap', didn't find anything.

The mounting systems used would be a big help to me if that could slip in the discussion. I have no clue whats used.
