Serving string loops on a flemish??
« on: September 06, 2008, 05:43:00 PM »
I made a new string for my recurve today and built the end loops a tad too big. I decided to serve the string about an inch below the loops to tighten them up. Does this sound ok or should I use this for back up and just build a new one the right way? I just don't like wasting stuff. I will definitely make a new one just don't have the time or the patience right now.

You can disassemnble the string and retwist the loops.  The serving will also work, but will make more noise when it slaps the recurve limbs at the end of the shot.  String will be quite bulky there so it might alwo begin to wear on the string groove.

Yeah I thought of that. The kicker is I already untwisted it once as I forgot to back twist the bundles before adding the second loop. So to undo it a 3rd time would really suck. I think I'll just make new one.

You don't have to back twist the bundles, I don't know who came up with that step, but I've never done it and have great strings that last as long as I need them. But I agree with Orion, just untwist it and make the loops smaller.

I got that from "doin the twist" dvd. Now that I think about it thats why I had to redo it. Because I untwisted the bundles then backtwisted them. Duh iall makes sense now. I think? Thanks guys
