Approx cost to ship to Australia??

Anyone know what the approx cost would be to ship a 64 inch LB to Australia?? Also who would handle the shipping/ THANKS

Chuck check the USPS (post office) website.  They have a shipping calculator to give you an idea and they will ship.  Be sure to get insurance and package it well!

I often have bows sent here to Auss from the States.  I have given up buying one-piece bows cause they are just too expensive to have shipped to Australia.

Your post office in the States won't ship the longer length so you will have to go with somebody like FedEx.  I have paid anything from 160 USD up to over 200.  The Fox Royal Crown I had sent this year cost me 190 USD - absolutely rediculous.  You could just about buy another bow with that sort of money.

It just kills the price of a bow and as I said I only get t/d bows now.  The last t/d that landed here a few weeks ago from the States only cost me $45 - much better!

I sent one to Oz a while back, and it cost $175.00. The Post Office wouldn't accept it because it was too long (it was a recurve). I don't know if it was U.S. or Australia's restriction, but I suspect it was Australia's.

Anyway, I shipped it FedEx.

On top of the postage, the buyer had to pay import duty on the bow when it arrived. I marked the package used sporting equipment, so that helped a little, but I don't know how you guys in Australia afford bows from over here.

You are right Scatthershot - I sometimes wonder too.  Things are a bit better now because the Government in the last few yrs lifted the duty threshold to 1,000 AUD.  It used to be much lower than that.

My first bow I brought over here (around 2003) was a Martin Savannah.  I think at that time they were selling in the States for $450.  By the time I paid the postage, exchange rate and duty it added up to nearly 900 Australian Dollars.  To add insult to unjury the bow was a total dud.  I must have had rocks in my head.

Things are much better now because the Australian dollar is a lot highter against the Greenback and anything under 1000 dollars does not attract duty.  It is only the postage that is the killer.  Like I said - get a one-piece.

Australia has a 46" length restriction on PO shipping. SO you are looking at using FED-EX or UPS.

Actually Vermonster the length restriction for USPS to Australia is 42" not 46" . We ship Yew wood there all the time and it has to be 42" billets or go UPS , you dont even want to know how much a stave is to ship UPS to Australia.

Let me say this though guys - it is still worth every cent that we pay.  You guys in the States make the best bows in the world - second to none.

We have a few bowyers in Australia who puddle around in their shed from time to time but I have never seen anything that is made here come close to what you guys in the States produce.  I reckon the local stuff here is rubbish.

Then horror of horrors we could buy a Korean Samick that are available here.  I think an old bent twig and a length of hay baling rope would be better than one of those.

I really havn't minded all the money I have spent on getting bows from the States.  Nothing available from elsewhere is even worth considering so if we have to pay a bit for postage to get a world class bow - I am not complaining.

I sent a 64" one piece long bow to OZ, Melbourne I believe, last year and it was $125 fed-ex.

Try DHL.  They ship internationally and are usually cheaper than FEDEX and UPS.

Well I took the bow to the post office yesterday. Had it packaged in a 70 inch piece of PVC pipe. I asked what it would cost to send to Australia and the clerk came up with approx 70 dollars. She didn't measure anything, just weighed it??? So now I'm wondering if she gave me the wrong price??

You have to be careful of the PO you go to. Just because they take it, doesn't mean it will get delivered. A lot of the smaller and some of the bigger PO don't do much international shipping and don't know the rules. You may get your package back and only be out the shipping or it may sit in limbo to never be seen again. The odds of it actually being delivered to the guy in Australia are virtually nill.

I recently shipped a T/D and two dozen arrow shafts to Australia by Priority International at the PO, and the shipping alone was about $46. The package was 5x5x38".

Chuck, in all likelihood, the package will get to Oz and be refused. I hope you have a tracking number of some kind so you can get it back.

Good luck! I had that happen to me, once, shipping to Europe, and managed to get my money back, since the PO accepted the contract to deliver the bow and didn't.
