New arrow question
« on: September 19, 2008, 06:18:00 PM »
I just got my new gold tips to bare shaft very good and now I want to fletch them. My question is are 5" feathers enough for my arrows with my new magnus 2 broadheads? In the past I've used 5 1/2" banana cut with 160 grain snuffers.I thought with the smaller heads I could cut down the fletching,am I right? Thanks.

5" will be plenty.I shoot 5" parabolic with 2 blade Magnus and Wensel Woodsmans on my CX Heritages' and they fly great and yours will too.

George those 5" should do you just fine if your going with 3 feathers. I'd use 4" if your going to use 4 feathers. Are you fletching these your self or having them done, cause I could fletch them up for ya.

Here's a curve ball. I have been shooting 5-5.5" 3 fletch for over 50 years. With the cost of feathers nowadays I tried four fletching some of my arrows so that I could get two 4" fletches from one feather. I think my Jo Jan indexer is 75x105. The new four fletch seems to shoot flatter and so far my bhs seem to group better. The arrows seem to straighten out quicker, as well. I did some of my wife's the same way and now all her hunting arrows are four fletched with 4" feathers. Howevr, in response to your actual question, you should be fine with "just" 5" fletch.

Yep, 3x4" is plenty with good tuning and especially with FOC's above "normal"....O.L.
