Gaffey-27,  There are no trad shops around me either, but I have with the help of people here been put on the "right path" as it were many a time.  You have specific questions you can always find an answer or 10 here.   :knothead:

My advice is to take a road trip. There is an expo the end of March in wheeling WV. Lots of vendors and different bows are going to be there. I'm sure you could shoot some to get a feeling of what you like.

As far as traditional stores there are a couple on the internet. 3rivers archery. kustom king, and others have internet sites. You can also look in the sponsors classifieds on this site.

Traditional Archery accounts for only/about 10% of all archery and hunting styles...That is why "traditional archery shops" are few and far between...A good idea would be to attend a Traditional Shoot where you can shoot many bows and talk to alot of "experts"...

People on this site would all love to help in any way they can...I've learned alot by reading different posts...But...To Be In The Center Of A Traditional Gathering Beats Any Store Hands Down!!!

Look for Whittingham NJ shoot in Trad Events...

Good Luck!... mike ...

I have the same problem, and I live fairly close to ya. Im about ten minutes south of the mass pike.
I have been looking myself, and so far, the only one I can find is Joe Skipp(Renegade archery)..he is south of me about forty minutes or so....atleast I think he has trad stuff....LOL. I am planning a first visit soon myself.

I second Whittingham Shoot in NJ.  It always falls in late April.  Do a web search for Appalachian Bowman.  They hold the shoot.  Lots of bows and goodies also great courses.

If the weather is good I guarantee you will have a great time.  They have primitive camping available or if that is not to your liking there are plenty of other places to stay really close.  It's a three day shoot.

Trad shops are far and few. But, your at the right place for help. If you need "stuff" 3Rivers or Kustom King (both have websites) are as good as it gets. The classified here are also very good for finding treasures.
For answers, just ask at the Trad gang.

Glad to see another newcomer to traditional archery.  I made the switch from compound to traditional and I'll never go back.

Good luck!

If you ever make it to Michigan, Traditional Outdoor Supply(Tom) was a great to deal with and helped me get started.

You might try contacting bear, Martin, Bob Lee, or some of the other companies that make bows and see if they'll give you the name of dealers  in your area that sell their products.
Just be careful if you buy from a bow shop that's main business is compounds. I bought my Bear Montana from just such a dealer and ended up with 2117 Gamegeters for my first set of arrows. They were waaaay tooo stiff and made me think I was a worse shot than I really was. I don't fault the store, they were doing the best they could.

The owner of Lemmes is also a traditional man!He carries the Matthews recurve and longbow plus he had some other bows, used and new from different bowyers. If you go to see him,a few miles west of him is Browns archery who carries the Martin line of traditional bows, plus a ton of accessories. Both of the owners are good guys to deal with.I would suggest you call them both for hours.Lemmes phone #is 518-869-5363,Browns is 518-393-2004.If you have any questions email me cause I know both places probably I little to well.Good luck.
