Stringing method
«
on:

I have been reading a few of these forums and was wondering what the proper method to string the bow would be. From what I gather the step through method is wrong. I assume this can damage the limbs. Can anyone explain the proper method of stringing the bow. I'm new to Trad.

best bet is to buy a Bow stringer most of the sponsors on here carry them.

Yep (Tradtusker) said it all. go to
www.3riversarchery.com
and look for the Limb saver Recurve stringer! it is the best I have used, and I have had mine for 15yrs now, it will string Recurves and Longbows with ease.

Jeremy,
I have used all the various bow stringers and the best ones by far are the Webster (A&H Archery, the bowyers who make the ACS bows, send them to purchasers of their bows) and the Skookum. The Webster can be found here
http://www.keystonecountrystore.com/Traditional_Archery/Traditional_Archery_Accessories/Allied_Archery_Webster_Bowstringer/Page_1/TBO1371102.html
and the Skookum can be found here
http://www.alaskabowhunting.com/Skookum_Bow_Stringer_P136C44.cfm?UserID=530198&jsessionid=00303459fde1654c4fb6
. I have the Webster but will be getting the Skookum which has the holder for an allen wrench for 3 piece takedown limb bolts. Nothing wrong with the Limbsaver stringer -- it's just not even close to being as good as the two I recommend.

Stringer for recurves and some R/D longbows, like my ACS-push pull for longbows and R/D longbows with substantial limbs like R/D self bows.
I use a stringer with a nylon pouch for the bottom tip and a small leather cup for the top end.
