Brace height difference...And my bow scare!
« on: September 23, 2008, 04:08:00 PM »
How much difference in brace height does it take to affect your arrow flight/bow performance? I had my bow unstrung all night and the brace height increased 2/8ths of an inch.

And has anyone ever had thir bow come out of the stringer when they're stringing it? I was stringing up my longbow today and I think one end slipped out of the stringer and the bow exploded! Not literaly, the bow is fine but the arrows that were in my quiver flew everywhere (with sharp broadheads, thankfully not hitting anyone). It scared me half to death and the lower limb hit my dog in the face, he's ok though.

Thanks

Had one slip out of a cheap stringer and thought I broke my jaw.  Poor technique and a junk stringer taught me a lesson.

A 1/4 " is big in terms of brace height adjustment. Not necessarally in overall brace height. Are you using a dacron string they will generally stretch like that for a little while. I find a place where the bow performs well and note the brace height. I will alwayse check when I string it up, after I have shot a few rounds, and several times during a hunt. Hope this helps

now this may be stupid but can this be due to the string not being waxed ? I shoot all the time with B50 strings on my bows and just about every week wax the heck out of the strings and have not seen a lot of change. I do see some change when I put a new string on a bow till I have about 200 shots thru the bow...
you should see how I use to shoot
