Bow Setup and tuning inquiries
« on: September 26, 2008, 08:21:00 PM »
Hello, I have a #55 recurve and draw 29".  I have 125 gr. broad heads and need to buy arrows.  What weight, length, and spine should my arrows be?  Also, I was wondering if I need to adjust the brace height when I change arrows and/or add brush buttons and a silencer to the string.

30" arrows
for carbon you are probably between a 400 and 500 and could make either work with different point weights. For aluminum 2018 or 2117's.
For wood 60-65.

These are all guesses, everyone's form and release are different. Best way is to buy a test kit or better yet borrow differrent arrows from others if any are around to see what works.

Spine would depend on how close to center shot your riser is, I would think 400 spine, carbon, would work, start full length and tune using the bareshaft method. Here is the link.

Brace height is what shoots the most quiet for you, varies with different bows. Weight will be determined by which shaft you buy, most go for 8-10 grains per pound of draw weight. Put the string silencers and if you will be using them the brush buttons on BEFORE you tune. Changing arrows, I would recommend retuning using bareshaft method.

well David most of all have fun shooting your bow.

I generally start out by getting a new string, check the nock fit on string, setting nock height, get the brace height at optimal position, and then bare shaft as needed. hope this helps. As far as silencers and such that is personal touch if you do want them they should be added before you tune the arrows.

My personal favorite is wood and then carbon not a fan of alum.

Are your broadheads glue on or screw in???   If they are screw in you can start with carbon. If they are glue on you can go with wood or get steel adapters and you can get a heaver carbon...
