What wood similar to Osage that doesnt darken?
« on: October 02, 2008, 02:17:00 PM »
Hi all,

Im looking for a yellow wood like Osage for an accent stripe that doesnt darken over time like Osage does. Ive heard Amarillo might be an answer, any one have any pictures they could post?

Any other timber suggestions?

Thanks!

Fustic is very similar in color to Osage. I don't know how much it darkens over time.

You could always have a maple accent stripe dyed with Osage dye or a color similar to what you like used for the accent.

the Pacific Yew limbs on my bow haven't changed much in the 2 years I've had it.  Not quite the orange of Osage.....

Brazilian Satin.  Bright yellow and doesn't darken. Used it for years.

Shutte lumber in K.C. sells some yellow wood they call Canery not as bright as Osage to start with. Don't know about aging of it either.

Mora which common name is Argatinian Osage you might want to check into.  I had some for a while that never darkened and the stuff I had was the same color as a lighter osage.  dino

Don't they make a yellow actionwood (or some variety of laminate)?  I'm sure that wouldn't change color very much if at all.  Probably wouldn't look good as limb veneers    :scared:    but would make great sense as an accent stripe.

that wood is bright yellow. I'll try to get some pics posted if you like. I cut some a few months ago wanting to make a riser out of it, but dried it too quickly and it checked. Just hard to find a bush big enough to get much out of.
