My season's over before it really gets started (REVISITED)
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:01:00 PM »
I found out I've got to have hernia repair surgery on Wednesday and will have to lay out for @ least 6 weeks. I was supposed to go hunting with my dad this weekend and see if the new longbows could score. Please keep the hunting stories posted, even if you don't bring home any meat. This is going to be tough. I'll be off of work for 6 weeks and I can't even shoot in the yard to pass the time with practice.
Good luck to everyone in the woods.

JUST GOT BACK FROM THE DOC'S, HE SAID I CAN TRY TO SHOOT (NO PROBLEMS) BUT I HAVE TO GIVE UP ON THE SEASON UNTIL NOV 15. THANKS FOR ALL THE POSTS, TERRY DID YOU EVER GET AROUND TO THAT VIDEO? IF NOT THAT'S FINE I'LL QUIT LOOKING.
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE ENCOURAGING POSTS AND PM'S.

Good luck with your surgery.

Makes me feel bad for complaining if I can`t hunt because of something silly.

Again, best of luck.

That sucks.  Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Two years ago my wife had to go in for some surgery, which meant I had to watch the Littlebopper, so I didn't have much of a hunting season that year.

Get rest, get well, and start planning for next year.

I had the same thing happen about ten years ago but the recovery time back then was like 12-18 weeks. I was able to sneak out about 6 weeks after the surgey don't tell my doctor. I had my dad drive me to a ground blind and right before he came to pick me back up at dusk I had a flat racked 23" wide 13pt buck walk seven yards in front of me. I made a perfect shot it turned out to be a good season after all.

I had the same thing a year ago in March and was shooting in two weeks. Initially the doc said six weeks but let me try it sooner. By the way I was 53 when I had it done.

Brandon,
Hey, I have been thru that scenario twice, both on the same side. Recovery time has a lot to do with the type of surgery you have done. For me it was the conventional way, today they are doing it a lot with laparoscopic equipment which really shortens your recovery time.
Which ever method the doctors are using for you make sure you listen to them and leave it heal. You will be good to go in a very short while.
Get a slingshot and make believe.Good hand eye coordination and it will pass the time.

                       Take care and good luck,
                                 Craig

Mr Rogers
Sorry about your season being shot and I know how you feel, I broke my right arm this past Wednesday morning at work and go for surgery to have a plate and screws insralled next Thursday.
We had one more weekend of bow season to go and a full week of muzzleloader season starting this coming Saturday which I intended to hunt with a bow.
Oh well, next archery season is only 11 months away.
