Scouting trip on Big Hammock
« on: October 16, 2008, 12:15:00 AM »
Took the boat to the Altamaha River here in South Ga. near home today. I planned on a short scouting trip and wanted to run the boat a little its been sitting up a bit. Bow season is in so deer and porkers are legal.
1st pick is where the Ohoope River flows into the Altamaha. Its a black water river and is beautiful when it mixes with the clear water Altamaha. By the way the Altamaha is made from three rivers coming together. The Ocmulgee,Oconee and Ohoopee. All Indian names.

Big Hammock by the way is a WMA in south Ga. around 5600 acres in size. Its special to me because I killed my first wild pig here years ago.As I was headed up river I saw these guys. They hung around just long enough for a pic.

Sorry for the blurry swamp rooster pic but the birds were moving as well as the boat.

Almost stepped on this rare Indigo Black snake while easing around.

All in all a good trip. Didn`t see a deer or Pig but saw a lot of sign. Found a persimmon that was very hot a few weeks earlier but had no fruit left. Will remember it for next year for sure.I`m gonna predict a pig killing here in the coming weeks....God Willing,RC.
