EFOC + TOTAL ARROW WEIGHT
« on: October 19, 2008, 10:01:00 AM »
I wanted to start a thread regarding EFOC and arrow weight.I am immersed in reading all the Ashby threads and it brings up a major question that I am sure many trad guys - both 'green horns' and 'old salts' would like to see 'in print'

With an arrow set up as per all the Dr Ashby findings regarding EFOC , fletching, broadhead where is the 'point of diminishing return' as related to arrow weight VS arrow speed ?  I ask this because I shoot a 42-43 lb R/D longbow I made with Dale Stahls help and Im ready to totally change my setup after all this reading yesterday and today..

I would really like to talk about this with everyone and see where this thread can go... I will be very glad to help in any way if needed...

Thank you all...

In order to get 20-30% EFOC you need a very light shaft that is super stiff-I shoot wood arrows and can't get that high without either weighing too much-like 1000 grains, or being totally out of spine-up to 85# already.
By using arrows with a long hardwood footing I have been able to get the weight that works for me, and really good bareshafting results; reduced fletching by 50% and get really good BH flight.
You have to play with this stuff, and your set up to achieve what works for you and what you can live with.

hey trapper dave, what bow poundage are you shooting? there's no way my 3555's would that much point weight out of my 54# recurve. trouble is my minimum arrow length is 30". 2" shorter like yours and it might work.
Thick fog slowly lifts
Jagged peaks and hairy beast

Border black douglas recurve 70# and 58# HEX6 BB2 limbs
