Well didnt get good pictures to post, only meat pole type.This is my 3rd year hunting, first without my wheelie bow as possible backup,sold it! First week of bow season I harvested a #120 doe at 22yds with my 1976BW 1226 #46@28, hit the fourth rib from the back on the right side, angled forward and through a rib on opposite side,busted a hole in the shoulder blade with a Wensel Woodsman hung halfway through. She went 45 yards and crashed in sight! Second week, shot a 4pt,#130, 10yds on the ground, double lung, 120yds recovery, dropped in sight. Same bow as before. One long spike on one side, three spikes out of the crown on the other. This deer had some bad gentics, think a friend shot his dad on my farm last year.It had the same horn pattern and a front leg that had been broken and was fused solid, weighed #180 gutted in Nov. when he shot him. Since then have been on deer, lots of deer, saw over 100 from blinds/stands and not shot opportunities. The other night had 3 does behind me in a thicket eating beech nuts for 30 minutes,,could see a leg, or ear, but not way to get a arrow through to them. At dark on my way out came across a skunk, and since I am a die hard varmint hunter, decided to take my frustrations out on him and take a shot at 18 yds in the moonlight. Shooting at a downward angle cut him nearly in two, didnt even spray! I waited a couple minutes, went over and pulled my arrow out of the ground and him. So far I am 3 for 3, and really all I have changed is my hunting strategy, getting closer, watching the wind better, more critical blind/stand placment. On the doe I remember taking my time,picking a spot and just staring at it for a while before drawing, on the buck I picked a tuft of hair as he was bent around eating acorns, head behind his off shoulder and I remember my hand coming to anchor point, brushing by and then I saw my lime 4" feathers hit his ribs and flash through. I feel just like the newbies every time this happens, even after taking several deer now with a trad bow, and 53 total with both trad and modern archery tackle. This is magic, and no other type of hunting comes close. A lot of guys give me grief because in the past I have hunted hard for P&Y class bucks, taken 2 and a bunch close. I told them I am just hunting for fun and filling the freezer, good times with my buddies, and personal satisfaction from now on as I dont have as much time to hunt, want to make every minute count and enjoyable, when I horn hunted, I worked it like a second job, the only way it would pay off around here. I owe a lot of this success to you guys and gals here over the last year with tips on shooting, tuning, conditioning that have payed off for me in more ways than this explains.
