what FOC are you shooting?
« on: October 21, 2008, 06:03:00 AM »
has everyone accept me found a way to get 27% + FOC without having a 1500gr arrow? my two setups are- 54# 26% 620gr & 69# 24% 780gr. it's certainly a balancing act trying to get EFOC, the weight you want and perfect flight before you've trimmed the arrow to short. both these setups fly great so i might just settle with them. or is an extra 4-5% worth all the effort? (and expense)

Don't worry too much about it. Both those arrows are up there in terms of FOC. When I started only a few years ago, the recommendations were only 12 to 14%. You know how to get an arrow through old Micky-bull, so that's good enough, I'd reckon!

remember Ashby says anything from 19 to 30 % is X-FOC.

I had never even looked at it, I just played with weight on bareshafts til I got good flight.  but I measured it last night and have 19.5 %.

CX terminators cut nock throat to front @ 28.75"
100 grain brass inserts
125 grain glue on Woodsmans
75 grain steel adaptors.
balance point is about 20 inches from nock throat.

forgot to add that they are 4560 shafts.

14.8% not on purpose, it just turned out that way.

Can't do it with wood. I use a long hard wood footing and 160 grain head, and get 14%-perfect flight though.
