Hi all,
Thought Id post some pics you might find interesting. Ive been impressed by the toughness of the Arrow Dynamics Trad Heavies Ive been using…check out the pics!
Arrow is set up with a 100gr Muzzy brass insert, 100gr steel adapter and a 200 gr Ace brass field point. Total arrow weight is about 748gr and I was shooting it out of my 55# @ 27” FireFly FX. The arrow has a FOC of about 27% and arrow velocity is around 148fps.
The arrow went through two hay bails and a good couple inches into the asbestos pot. As you know this stuff is quite hard. You’ll see to the left of the arrow another hole in the other pot…yep did exactly the same thing! Maybe the FOC contributed to the great penetration, either way def gives me confidence to use this shaft on game. Also sent the same arrow through the hay bails, bounced once on the grit and punched through our concrete retaining wall! Arrow was perfect just a couple of scuff marks.
The broken shaft is a Easton Axis 400 with a 2” footing of 2020 alu shaft. It hit the same pot plant as the AD Trad but right on the rim which I reckon is about 3 times thicker than the rest of the pot…so not a fair comparison, but interesting to see how the shaft split perfectly right on the insert.
Ive since put a bag stuffed with cotton offcuts in front of the hay bails to stop the arrows…took me three arrows and couple of leaky pots to figure that out though
:D
AD Trads are tough!
