Been shooting cedar for years, and they are still my main arrows, but I got some spruce this summer, and with the exception of the lack of fragrance, they are much like cedar and seem to be tougher.

Good old cedar, I taper the nock end 10". I did try some laminated birch shafts and am impressed with them, pretty easy to straighten and plenty heavy.

I like cedar as my main source. Chundoo is a good one too.

Sitka spruce and POC. I found some old ACME cedar shafts that I are the best wood shafts I have owned.

I like tapered Chundoo 11/32 down to 5/16. They have good weight and can take a beating.

POC was always my go to shaft. I did try ash but had to keep straightening it. Now I use and prefer either sourwood shoots or cane for arrows. Pat

Cedar is my favorite, but I'm hunting this year with laminated birch. Seems pretty tough and its quite heavy, 31" arrow 125gr broadhead 725grs.

Douglas Fir is my favorite. I end up with about a 650gr. arrow with my 160gr STOS. The grain in Doug fir stands out really nice, and that also allows you to tell whether the grain is parallel or not ( which translates to straight shafts) I have been getting them from Raptor Archery, and they are always top notch quality.
I have tried alot of other woods over the years and I find Doug fir hard stuff to beat.

Shot cedar at first. Then tried ash for a couple years. Went back to cedar this year and am wondering why I ever left. Love cedars

I've heard alot of good things about Sitka Spruce who has the best prices on tapered shafts? I also heard alot of good things about Chundoo too. Where do you good folks get your shafts/finished arrows from? Thanks!

Doug fir for me as well. Cedar snaps off behind the head of my blunts when I am stump shooting far to often for my liking so a number of years ago I switched to Doug fir only. I haven't ever tried the Sitka Spruce so I have no comparison for it and Doug Fir to offer.

The only place I've seen Chundoo is from John at Twig archery. Sitka spruce I'm sure is available from several sponsors here.
