Ohio Rut
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:02:00 PM »
I haven't seen much sign on the farm where I hunt until yesterday.  Rubs are starting to pop up everywhere, and there were lots of tracks that looked like bucks trailing does.  I'm in Ohio.  What are the rest of you Ohio hunters seeing?  Is the rut heating up where you hunt?  My main hunt for the season is planned for the first 2 weekends in November.  I'm hoping that things will be peaking out about then.

Just starting in the northwest corner of the state..scrapes appearing and witnessed a buck chasing a doe Sunday evening on stand.  Your timing should be spot on

Watched a large buck hot on a trail last night about 50 yds. from my stand. He wasn't paying attention to anything other than the trail he was on. Have only  seen 1 scrape and a couple fresh rubs though.
This is in Coshocton Co.

As of Fri. I saw several small bucks starting to roam. No chasing or following as of yet but I've been out of town for a few days. I'll report back on Thur. but I think this weekend things will be under way. Halloween has always been the trigger day around here. I'll start a little rattling early next week. Rubs and scrapes are picking up. I checked one of my new "RUT" stands the other day and it's activity is picking up. I'll hunt it Fri. morning for the 1st time. No chasing witnessed as of yet. Harrison county.(east)

I've only been able to get out one day each of the past 2 weekends.  On the 19th, I finally started seeing fresh rubs, but none of the old scrapes had been opened yet.  This past 26th, there were rubs and scrapes all over the place...I'd say about 15+ scrapes were found.  Oddly, many of the usual scrape locations along field edges were NOT active, and I found more within the interior of the woods & brush than usual.  On the drive home, I watched a 4 point chasing a doe in the headlights. (Delaware county)

I drive 45 minutes one way and have been starting to see more bucks on the move. My brother watched  a big one trailing does this weekend.

We're starting to see rubs here too and a few small, tentative scrapes.

I shot a nice ten point on Sunday morning. Had a spike chasing does around the blind all morning. I figure the buck I shot was just coming in to see what all the running around was all about. No rubs or scraps to speak of though.

I brought in a nice buck last Saturday morning with my grunt call. Unfortunately I missed. I hunt in Champaign County. The rut is getting started here.

Sunday morning I bumped a great 8 point making a scrape near my stand while walking in in the dark. And sunday I had a small buck chasing two does around the woodlot I was in till one of the does got a wiff of me and headed cross country taking the other two with her.

Well, I checked the farm again this evening, and scrapes are popping up everywhere.  I also saw a really nice buck as I was heading in - too dark and far to shoot, but he was definitely working those scrapes.  I didn't see anymore rubs, but these are the first scrapes I've seen.
