Simple fletching protector....PICS added
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:45:00 PM »
With all the rain/sleet/and hail we've been having lately, I made a simple fletching protector last night.  Haven't taken any pics- but:
I took an old trebark shirt, cut the sleeve off just above the elbow, and above the wrist a bit.  Sewed the elbow end shut, stuffed a gallon zip-loc bag inside (stitched it in place so it doesn't pull out). I then pulled the stretch cord out of an old jacket and sewed it into the wrist end of the sleeve- the bag opening end.  Lastly- I cut a chunk of foam of one of those pool floaty deals and stuck it in the bottom.  This keeps the bag from crushing my feathers.  Slide the arrows inside- stick the nocks in the foam, and wrap the stretch cord around my quiver....voila- dry feathers!  It may be cro-magnon made   ;)   but it was cheap and works well.  I should have also mentioned that the stretch cord is very important.
It allows me to remove arrows silently- just pop them out of the holders- push them down to clear the broadhead from the hood- and the cord stretches to allow this to happen- then slip an arrow out.

And one of my hunting rig-

Individual ingenuity is what trad is all about ... whatever works and never better than doing it ourselves. I hate soggy feathers, though with a perfectly tuned arrow they shoot pretty well (if you don't mind the loud "Snap!" and a spray of cold water in the face.) Shooting often is easy. Shooting straight is the trick. Thanks for posting, d

I prefer to have the bottom open.  Terry has been using one, and pics appear in some of his "hero shots".  Rod Jenkins started carrying some, though they aren't on his page.

Honestly, very nice job on your part making one from your "old stuff".  Hats off to your creativity.
