brass = class
« on: March 03, 2007, 02:16:00 PM »
Well, I ventured into new territory this past week. I fashioned a brass finger guard out of a piece of brass from a sprinkler system apperatus. It was alot of work but the results were worth the time. Here is a pic of it. Walnut with ebony on the butt end. The wood between the brass stripes is cocobolo. Hope you enjoy it. Mike
Here it is glossy.
Here it is flat.

Hey Frank, Do you recognize that piece of sealskin? Thanks!

Thanks gang! These helle blades are just the ticket for someone like me who knows nothing about metal. Mike, I shaped the brass with my belt sander and drum on my drill press. Takes the bite out of the belt pretty fast but since the brass is soft, it worked okay. Then a file and sandpaper in finer and finer grits. I like the flat finish better also. Mike

Love the way you shaped the handle!   :notworthy:
I'm currently making two of them myself...don't have any powertools, so the fun lasts even longer!
