There was a thread here a couple days or so ago about the timing of the rut and when to hunt OH.
The answer is NOW! Get all the tree time you can folks, the next 3 or 4 days is gonna be good.

Are you north or south? my dad and uncle are hunting in Meigs and Athens countys right now they said the small bucks 1 and 2 yr olds are getting restless but no mature bucks yet. they think for the 4yr old plus bucks it's still another 4-5 days away.

Saw a VERY nice buck this morning at 5am on my way home from work crossing the road. Large, swollen neck and nose to the ground---almost didn't even look up as i came toward him
I got 7 days off work now-----time to hit the woods!

35 miles southeast of Columbus, not here yet. If I had to make a guess from what I'm seeing, 10-14 days away. I've got alot on bucks around my little part of Ohio and scrapes are few and far between and their not the ones that count. I'm kind of getting the feeling this might be a sneaky kind of rut.

My buddy's son rattled in a 5 pt. buck the other day and drilled him nicely---his first trad. deer after several misses. He's 14 and very excited!!

I am not seeing much yet.
I did manage to get a button buck with the truck tonight, though. No damage to the truck. Deer wasnt torn up either, so it all worked out. Meat for the freezer and didnt even have to use a tag.

Not seeing alot of rutting activity inHarrison county as of yet. They seem to be still laying it down for now. Could explode any day now. Scrapes and rubs showing up but deer movement slow. My partner saw 10 doe this morning and no bucks. I saw 1 doe with a buck about ten minutes behind this morning. He was grunting down in the creek bed but never showed his face. Could have been a spike or maybe the biggin, we'll see soon. It's coming!
