I recently made a longbow with a cedar core and .050 black glass. Mine seemed to take a bit of set just off the fades too. I think this was a result of cedar being such a weak wood (in this case in terms of perpendicular compression). It took this set after about 100 shots and hasn't gotten worse after 1000+ shots. It shoots quick, quiet, and with no shock. I think these qualities are a result of the light, but springy nature of the wood (basically a filler between the glass). I want to experiment woth cedar cores more, but I'm leary of the weak wood structure...maybe I'll post a question here to get more info.
