String lenght and type for new bow????

Just bought a new to me bow and its a Saxon Hawk. The bow is 60" in length and want to order a new string for it. It's coming with a B-50 string and I dont know to much about that string material, but would like a higher performance string like FF or something similar. Anyone help me with string length and materials here, also what size serving/serving material for an all around good nock fit.

Ya need to make SURE that yer bow can safely handle modern low stretch,low creep string fibers.  If ya don't know for SURE, stick with Dacron.  

Then check with the bow maker for the recommended brace height and what AMO string length will best achieve that brace height.

As a rough rule of thumb, a 60" r/d longbow probably could handle a 6-1/2" to 7-1/2" brace height range.  If ya have a tillering string, it'll be easiest to set the string length - if not, start with a 57" string.

String center serving diameter size depends on the string fiber diameter, number of string strands, and yer arra nock throat size.  In the best of all worlds, ya want a loose fit of the nock throat to the string's center serving - NEVER a tight fit.

Good advice from Rob.
Best bet is measure the string that comes with it, and order the same length as the string at proper brace height.

 Many bow are not made to AMO length. I have seen bows that take a string 1" shorter than the length marked on them and others take a string 4" shorter.
 AMO says it should be 3",but many bows are not measured to AMO even if they are sold as AMO length bows.

Measure the string, don't buy twice.

Not as easy as it seems since a static measurement ain't gonna work due to stretch of Dacron and way less stretch with modern HMPE fibers.  Even dynamic measurements (braced bow) can be ball park.  Best to talk to Saxon - I posted their website addy.  Second best is to use a tillering string of the same fiber type (either Dacron or HMPE).  There ain't no third best - that's where ya depend on luck.
