Bear supermag in key of G

I'm shooting a bear supermag, 50# @28", drawing 27".  Stock string which bear says is 16 strands of fast flight.  Have added beaver balls and bow hush to the string, shooting 10 gpi terminators at 29" with 250 grains up front, hi-profile 5.5" feathers.  Bohning press fit nocks that have been adjusted to release the arrow with a light tap when held vertically.

Love most everything about the bow.  When I do my part it shoots where I look.  Only thing I don't like is it sounds like I'm playing a stringed instrument at release.  Pronounced but short twang.

I don't think I'm plucking the string at release.  Is this a common issue with the supermag? Could it possibly be the string?  If you have a supermag, does yours do this?  What did you do to silence it?

Too close to really hitting the woods hard to consider major changes like a new string, but are there any other things I should try, like possibly string leeches in stead of the beaver balls?

Forgot to mention, bear recommends a brace of 8-9".  I have it set at 8.75".

I think you did an excellent job of setting up the bow, but your mistake IMO was sticking with the stock string.  They are FF (noise) and they are endless (noise again).  I would suggest you get a high quality Flemish D-97 or TS+ string and set it up like you did the other, and keep the first one for a back up.

I agree with SlowBow on the stock FF string. If you have the orginal dracon string that may work in a pinch.

Try moving the string silencers around as well, It's amazing what a small change of position can do.   I have some bows with two sets of silencers and have them in different positions on each end of the string.


As was mentioned I would definitely try a Flemish string and possibly dacron, both are quieter per my exp.

Thanks.  My gut said it was probably the string.

M60, the string that is on it is the stock string.  It came with ff.
