My talisman and a 3 legged buck
« on: November 09, 2008, 03:02:00 PM »
For the last two years within two days after I have seen a bobcat I have taken a buck. I always see the bobcat in my treestand north of the house and kill the buck on my great aunt's place. Well Saturday AM look who walks by.
Sorry about the fuzzy picture he wasn't waiting around to pose. Well that siteing got me pumped!!! I believe that bobcats are my talisman sign and after two years of sightings and buck kills who am I to doubt it. Only thing is I hadn't seen anything but turkeys at my aunts old place this year. Sunday was my rotation day for that treestand so sunrise finds me in my walnut tree scanning down the hill. As usual the turkeys fly down after it gets light and I start calling to them when all of the sudden the ones down the hill start putting and I see a brown form race up the hill to my right. It stops and starts walking in what looks like a odd posturing motion. I got my glasses on him as he is walking see a horn and then notice he is carrying his right leg. I decide to take him if he comes in close enough to shoot. He hits the fenceline and turns south heading toward me. His course will give me a 23 yd shot if he keeps coming (this is a little farther than I would normally shoot but he is hurt and the bobcat has foretold his destiny). He stops once and then moves forward 3 yards and stops again, I draw and let the arrow fly....right over his back. He hobbles along the fence and jumps it onto my cousins place as I watch him, suddenly he falls over and lays still. WHAT THE HECK!! I pull out my binos and look for my arrow which I find covered in blood. Upon inspection I find that my arrow hit him at the top of his last rib cut through the the tenderlion and glanced off of a vertebrae and exited out between the third and fourth rib on the offhand side taking out the back of both lungs.
Check out his leg.
His knee was welded in this position it wouldn't budge.
When I skinned him out his leg had been broken up near the shoulder blade and a bone was sticking forward towards his chest. I found metal in it too but couldn't tell if it was from a bullet or a bumper. Anyway I think I need to talk to my bobcat power cause the bucks keep getting smaller and not bigger.   :)

That's crazy!

Are my eyes screwed up or are his antlers also a little strange?  Looks like a 3X1 or perhaps 3X2.

Regardless, congrats!!!

Nice shot. Congratulations.

Ever notice deformed antlers on bucks with old injuries? I've seen it several times over the years. Lin

Thanks guys!
Soilarch he has 3 on one side and two on the other you could hang a ring on. The 3 side is about 5" tall.
Bowhunter: I have a couple of nice ones I have my eyes on for taking during gun season.  :bigsmyl:

Well, that doesn't help me in my effort to build-up resistence to the wiley temptations of BW PSRs.

Well-done!
