My first selfbow
« on: March 04, 2007, 04:57:00 PM »
Nope I didn't make this one, wish i had his talent. I was lucky enough to get this on a blind trade where each of us made the other something of our craft and send it to each other. I tryed to get one of Ryan Osullivans Bows over a year ago but things never worked and money was short for me. I thank him for working this out with me.  Osage Static Recurve. 62" 49# at 28" This is a very smooth and crisp bow. He dyed a snakelike pattern on the back of it. You can see this bow being built on another site in Febuary as he did a build along with it. Thanks Ryan  IMG]

Hey Vic, very nice. I was hoping you would get a selfbow if you didn't already have one. I feel that shooting and hunting with a selfbow brings us a little closer to Natural World, and I know that you know what I mean. Now we just have to figure out your next selfbow, because you cannot have just one.

Most define selfbow as being constructed of a single piece of wood, no laminations although they may be backed with a different wood. Having a shelf is a matter of choice and does not a selbow make or break.

kingstaken, Thank you.  The "self" in selfbow simply means it made of one piece of material. In this case osage orange wood. A shelf has nothing to do with it, it is only personal preferance.

Wile E, A true selfbow with not have a wood backing. That is considered a wood laminate or backed bow.
